Post Re: Happy Canada Day

Happy Canada Day !!!

Whilst on the subject of National icons, at the moment of this auspicious day.

When and where AC is conveniently referred to in polite (and-not-so-polite ;-) conversation as the National Flag Carrier (IATA scheduled full-service), deemed necessarily vital to the national interest of Canada!?!?!?

Wonder why it’s OK to chop and sell of parts to foreign-controlled interest, just as other icons with more or less national interest are falling prey to the same fray.

http://finance.sympatico.msn.ca/investing/deirdremcmurdy/article.aspx?cp-documentid=5067654

Could it be the almighty buck is more important to an elite few???

Oh Canada!!!

Default Re: Anti-Scab Legislation - Proposed Bill C-263

With Minority Government in the works and the prospect of another Federal General Election on the not-too-distant horizon, the pseudo-alliance of NDP, LIBS and BLOC have seen a body politic finally usher in a Worker First Bill C-12 to protect the hard earned efforts of working middle class folk. > http://canadianlabour.ca/index.php/media/1302

The effort to push for anti-scab legislation will become even more of a cause celebre when the next expected and imminent election campaign is fought.

On our home-front, the prospect and pretext of Force Majeure, CCAA and/or ACtual Bankruptcy will have to give way to AC (Another Crisis ;-) capiche???

Stay Tuned...

Thumbs up Re: Anti-Scab Legislation - Proposed Bill C-263

Interesting G&M Poll following government action on the proposed sell-out of MDA Corp to foreign US interest, eh.

Good work CAW!!!

Now let's not let our guard down while we hope, pray and lobby that the same good dose of "du bons sens" prevails if they attempt to "sell away" parts of the AC Public Participation Act to dilute provisos about restrictions and caps on foreign ownership of Canada's National Flag Carrier and when we re-launch efforts to secure anti-scab lesgislation.

In Solidarity...

Post Re: Made in Canada solutions...

Carpe Diem!!!

Canada, we stand on guard for thee!!!

Please write your MP's.
..............................

I am writing once again on the subject of the limits on foreign ownership of Canadian companies vital to the economic interest of our nation.

I found the recent decisions taken by the Government, interesting to say the least. > http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/Page/document/v5/content/subscribe?user_URL=http://www.theglobeandmail.com%2Fservlet%2Fstory%2FRTGAM. 20080410.wmda-ownership11%2FBNStory%2FNational%2F&ord=29155961&b rand=theglobeandmail&redirect_reason=2&denial_reas ons=none&force_login=false

Maybe a change of heart (and mind) bodes well for "Made in Canada" solutions to keep our interest dealt with at home.

That being said, Mr. Giovanni Bisignani over at IATA, would do well to refrain from trying so hard to influence our business and tell us where we could and should wrap our flags around. > http://www.nationalpost.com/story.html?id=423232

When airline after airlines are falling apart, one after the other* in the USA and mega-mergers are being discussed with deeper suspicion as once again they are being suggested as be-all-and-end-all solutions to the pervasive industry problems. The labour movement is stepping up calls to tread the turbulent "air line" carefully, especially with elections on the near horizon. > http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17858408/ It's not a laughing matter for middle-class working folk and the true raison d'être behind those who profit from the ensuing chaos are becoming more apparent.

Enough people are getting more familiar with the real reason behind the pretext and some are once again calling for some type of re-regulation to stabilize the industry in response to escalating woes. > http://loudobbs.tv.cnn.com/

Up here north of the 49th parallel border, we are thus far, fearing much better than our neighbours to the south and those across the Atlantic pond. >

Even Canadian Big Business leaders are entering the debate to question the intent and purpose of foreign takeover/ownership bids...

Indeed, Free Trade costs much more than first apparent and as the old folks warned us, NOTHING in life is free... Wise words have never rung true as those old adages...

We also need reform of the voting system to adopt a Canadian-style Proportional Representation system. Fair Vote Canada

Zoom has Zip-ped away, then XL went belly up in the UK and now AZ is struggling to survive, but as the neo-arch-conservative emperor fiddles while Rome burns with the melt-down of a deregulated and unbridled markets in turmoil, facilitating greedy speculators. Just as the Big Corporate Bosses get huge severance rewards for their mis-management and the rest are left holding the bag, as the federal government uses tax-payer monies to bail-out private organizations, with no over-sight "in sight". But we all know the fundementals of the economy remain strong, right.

Lehman = Pan Am

Partial re-regulation of industrial markets run amok and in crisis, threatening the stability of commercial activity is needed NOW!!!
